The procedure is preformed using local anesthesia so there are no restrictions on driving or returning to work after treatment.
The root canal system has been treated and sealed in our office and in most cases a temporary restoration is placed to protect the work. Proper follow up with your dentist is required to permanently seal the biting surface of the tooth and many teeth will require a full coverage restoration (commonly called a crown or cap).
Chewing on the opposite side of your mouth is recommended until you follow up with your dentist to protect the treated tooth from damage.
Minor discomfort to pressure on the treated tooth and surrounding tissues is expected for a few days following treatment. Over the counter medication including ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, or acetaminophen should be sufficient.
Occasionally there can be a “flare-up” of an asymptomatic infection typically starting 1-2 days after treatment. This is typically controlled with medication if needed and healing usually continues without complications thereafter.
If you have any questions or concerns following your treatment please contact the office or treating doctor.
